Terms of Use
Last updated 21 October 2026
These terms are the rules for using the HoopSatellite app ("HoopSatellite", "we", "us"). By using the app you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Who can use HoopSatellite
- Anyone can browse the map.
- You must be 13 or older to have an account, which is needed to send reviews or courts to us and to use check-ins, pickup runs, friends and leaderboards. The app asks your birth month and year first. Please answer honestly.
- Use the app only where it's legal for you to do so.
Your account
- Accounts are anonymous: no email or password. Your account lives on the phone you use. If you delete the app or lose the phone, we can't restore your account, handle, XP or streak.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your friend code for people you want to follow you.
- One person per account. Don't pretend to be someone else, and don't make accounts to get around a ban.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (the person button, then Delete my account) or on the web.
What you post
What you add to HoopSatellite (your handle, courts you add with their names and notes, reviews, check-ins, runs, quick replies and reports) stays yours. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, show, adapt and share it as part of the app and its court map, for as long as it's in the app. Facts about courts you add (where they are, hoops, lights, surface) may stay on the map after you delete your account, without your name.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abuse
Don't post or do any of the following. We remove it and ban the accounts responsible.
- Hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual, violent or otherwise objectionable content, in a handle, a court name or notes, or anywhere else.
- Harassment, bullying, stalking or intimidation of anyone, including using check-ins, runs or follows to find, follow or bother a person.
- Sharing someone's personal information, or adding a court at a private home (mark a satellite find as "someone's home court" instead).
- Fake runs, fake check-ins, spam, scams, or impersonating another player or us.
- Getting around the age screen, a block or a ban, or using the app for anything illegal.
- Interfering with the service: scraping it, overloading it, probing for security holes, or reaching other players' data.
Reporting and blocking
- Block a player from their player card (tap their handle). A block works both ways: neither of you sees the other's check-ins, runs or leaderboard spot, follows between you end, and each of you is taken out of the runs the other hosts.
- Report a player from their player card, or a run with its flag button, and pick a reason. Reports go to our moderators only; the player isn't told who reported them.
- You can also write to support@hoopsatellite.com about anything you see.
- We review reports and act on objectionable content within 24 hours: we remove the content and suspend or ban the account responsible when it breaks these terms.
What we may do
To keep HoopSatellite safe and accurate, we may remove or change content (for example rename a handle, cancel a run, or hide a court), and suspend or ban accounts, at our discretion and without notice, when we believe these terms were broken or a player is at risk. We may also change, pause or stop parts of the app.
The courts
- Courts may be on private property, such as schools, churches, apartment complexes, homeowners' associations, clubs or campgrounds. Being on the map doesn't mean a court is open to you. Respect posted rules, hours and fees, and don't trespass. Some courts carry a note such as "may be residents-only", but no note doesn't mean a court is public.
- Check the court and the surface before you play, and play at your own risk.
- We don't check players or runs. Use your judgment when meeting people you don't know, and meet in public.
Map data
Courts come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License), from detections on USDA aerial imagery, from official park and court lists, from park websites, and from players. The app's Credits sheet lists every source and its license. This data can be wrong, out of date or incomplete. Satellite finds are guesses until players confirm them. Directions are provided by Apple Maps or Google Maps.
No warranty
HoopSatellite is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that a court exists, is open or is safe, or that a run will happen.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for injuries, losses or disputes arising from courts, games, other players or property you visit using the app. Where liability can't be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
App stores
If you got HoopSatellite from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple and Google aren't responsible for the app or its support, and Apple may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary.
Changes and ending
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app about important changes. Using the app after a change means you accept it. You can stop using HoopSatellite at any time and delete your account.
